NICK BROWN, CLARINET

Nicholas Brown is an active orchestral player, chamber musician, and soloist currently residing in Boston, MA. He has held positions with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Phoenix Orchestra (MA), as well as being a member of the inaugural class of Nova Fellows. Further, he is a substitute with The Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, New World Symphony, Boston Philharmonic, Orchestra of Indian Hill, and New Bedford Symphony. During his summers Brown has toured through the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria, and recently completed his fellowship at the Atlantic Music Festival in Waterville, Maine.

Nicholas made his solo debut with the Boston University Symphony Orchestra in April 2014 as grand prizewinner of the school’s concerto competition. He was subsequently chosen to perform Weber’s Second Clarinet Concerto with the Boston Pops Orchestra under Maestro Keith Lockhart. Mr. Brown’s other solo awards include finalist of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony’s Solo Competition and winner of the Jean and Harvey Picker Prize, Emily K. Rand Scholarship, and BU Departmental Award for Excellence in Performance.

As a chamber musician Nicholas has appeared as a Festival Artist with the Newport Music Festival, and is a member of Hathor Winds, a Boston-based wind quintet. The group has performed throughout New England, and has competed at the Fischoff and Plowman competitions, as well as being one of two semi-finalist ensembles in the 2015 Astral Artists National Auditions. Nicholas' studies have put him in collaboration with such musicians as John Bruce Yeh, Stephen Williamson, Michael Wayne, Ethan Sloane, David Martins, Yehuda Gilad, Larry Guy, Joaquin Valdepeñas, Pierre Dutrieu, and Thomas Parchman.

Nicholas graduated cum laude with his Bachelor of Music from Boston University and continued his studies with Thomas Martin, Associate Principal/E-flat Clarinet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
